Evolution of Coffee in Antioquia as a Promotor of the Colombian Economy

Abstract

Coffee, a product consumed worldwide, is fundamental for understanding an important part of the Antioquenian economy, given that it was the first promotor of development in the Department. This article explains the incidence of coffee and its industry in the current state of things in Antioquia, considering the strong tradition of the Department with this product. It is worth mentioning that Antioquia was famous for the significance of its medium and small coffee-producer farms, which allowed for an accelerated economic process and with better characteristics in comparison with the rest of countries’ regions due to its high efficiency, allowing it to become in the country’s economic nucleus until the late XX century.
