Abstract

This article pretends to synthesize the theoretical focuses, the ones mostly used to measure poverty and income distribution. It aims at reviewing the literature and making brief comments about these theoretical postulates. This paper, perhaps because it is ambitious, may turn out to be short, for each of the topics herein briefly handled, could perfectly make a book or a broad extensive document.

The first part of the document analyzes the theoretical principles formulated about the issue,
making a special reference to the utilitarists Rawls, Nozick, and Sen. The following chapters
makes a theoretical exploration of poverty and income distribution, and the main methodologies
to measure them.
