Abstract

The objective of this paper is to identify the productive vocation and potential that the metropolitan area of the Aburra Valley has for the development of its territory. The paper is structured under two methodological processes; the first one is the identification of capacities, constraints and potential within the territory and the second one is a perception analysis of the agents that intervene in the territory´s economy in order to identify possible strategies that promote competitiveness. The research led to the identification of the economic vocations of the different zones within the metropolitan area of the Aburra Valley, which evidenced the business clusters formation for the economic development of Medellin; nevertheless, the efforts done for other regions are certainly disarticulated.
