Abstract

This paper develops an analytic point of eference for some environmental effects due to the rapid growth of cities in development countries. In first place, discuss some aspects from economic theory view, on the growth of urban areas. In this sense, analizes scale economies as the main reason for said city development. Based on this, the author analize certain relevant impacts generated by urban economies, which can help explain the economic and territorial infeasibility of such regions. Last, it gives, in general form, a theoretical discussion on the substitution between manufactured and natural capital, since this substitution is in the heart of the problem faced in the sustainable development of urban economies.
