Terror in the Origins of Totalitarianism and Killing Policy

Abstract

With 'The Origins of Totalitarianism,' Hannah Arendt proposed the identification of the radical evil that totalitarian regimes caused during the first half of the 20th century. The killing policies of Hitler and Stalin became a calamity for humanity and caused a significant intimidation in­volving violence and total annihilation of their opponents. A killing policy implies the extermination of life not only from a physical standpoint but also from a political standpoint; this policy shows the capacity to isolate human beings from their public spontaneity and their irrefutable plurality in human affairs. Political ideologies ex­perienced before the totalitarian regimes had a strong influence on the constitution of national-socialist parties and Bolshe­vism; these ideologies based their speech and execution on historical events directly related to their erection.
