Abstract

This article analyzes the juridical definition of the metropolitan phenomenon in six States of the Republic of Mexico. Six State legislations expressly created for addressing and giving juridical form to a problem which has increased in Mexico are analyzed; from the point of view of governmental instances, this problem has been seen with more relevance during the last twenty years. In this way, the document outlines the metropolitan phenomenon as a social context. Then, the document outlines the constitutional mechanisms contemplated for managing and governing the metropolitan areas to finally expose the State cases that, before the lack of a domestic legal framework and based on the logic of the federal system, are intended to lay the legal foundations for solving this problem
