Comparación del nivel de satisfacción de los traductores independientes vs. asalariados de lengua irlandesa

Resumen
Este artículo recoge los resultados de una encuesta realizada a traductores de lengua irlandesa acreditados por el gobierno. La encuesta aborda una determinada cohorte de traductores de una lengua minoritaria en un contexto lingüístico particular, en el cual la demanda institucional de traducción es cada vez mayor. Esta encuesta puede ser también una buena base para seguir investigando sobre la satisfacción laboral de los traductores. Los participantes de esta encuesta fueron personas apasionadas por la traducción y la lengua irlandesa, pero las condiciones de empleo afectaron notablemente sus preocupaciones y perspectivas respecto a su profesión. Todos los traductores declararon un fuerte sentimiento de orgullo por su trabajo; sin embargo, las percepciones de los participantes independientes sobre las metas y la equidad en el trabajo, el pago, los colegas y la seguridad laboral son desfavorables en comparación con las de sus colegas del servicio público a tiempo completo. Los independientes informaron que luchan por trabajar juntos frente a la disminución de las tarifas y que algunos aceptan trabajos mal pagados que van en contra de sus propios intereses y los de sus colegas. Muchos de los participantes independientes se sienten amenazados por la tecnología, el potencial de la traducción automática para reemplazar a los traductores humanos y su impotencia respecto a la reutilización de traducciones para la capacitación de la traducción automática. Las respuestas muestran un temor en cuanto al decrecimiento de la calidad de la traducción, la falta de talento traductor y la falta de una audiencia para las traducciones. Los participantes tienden a ser negativos sobre la política lingüística nacional irlandesa, pero consideran que la política a nivel de la UE es beneficiosa, ya que los próximos cambios supondrán una oportunidad para traductores cualificados.
