Degenerate bodies and abnormal behaviors: the transgression of legitimate sexualities in Medellin between 1957 and 1966
Main Article Content
Abstract
On the basis of five articles published in the newspaper Sensational Stories on transvestism and homosexuality in Medellin, the text analyses the role played by the tabloid press in regulating certain kinds of sexual behavior, which are considered to be abnormal and immoral. The analysis reveals how the newspaper portrays homosexuality as using the body as an instrument of pleasure, which implies a transgression of the established order according to which the body degenerates when eroticism deviates from the norm; that is, when the individual gives him or herself over to 'forbidden carnal pleasures'.
